JADE SCHIEWE ON SURVIVING (AND LANDING DURING)
AN IN-FLIGHT COCKPIT FIRE

On September 28, 2010, a Cessna 172RG was flying in good weather over Oklahoma when fire broke out behind the instrument panel. The flames quickly spread to the rug and seats and filled the cockpit with thick black smoke. AVweb's Glenn Pew spoke with that flight's pilot, Jade Schiewe.

WILL 4G JAM YOUR GPS?
A plan to put up 40,000 broadband transmitters across the U.S. has the GPS industry worried that interference from the signals could make popular navigation units go black. Jeff Carlisle, VP of regulatory affairs for LightSquared, the company planning the broadband network, told AVweb it's too early to know what GPS devices might be affected and that his company is committed to working with the GPS industry to mitigate the effect.

KELLY McHUGH: DITCHING OVER THE GULF OF MEXICO
Kelly McHugh was flying a Piper Jetprop P46T at 26,000 feet over the Gulf of Mexico on December 4, 2010, when the engine started to lose power. He was more than an hour from shore with three other men aboard, and, one way or another, they were all about to get wet. AVweb's Glenn Pew spoke with McHugh to hear the story of the ditching.
