AVWEB'S FRIDAY PODCAST:
'ROUND-THE-WORLDER (AND ONE-MAN YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM) BARRINGTON IRVING

At only 23 years old, Barrington Irving is a man on a mission. In late June, he completed a 'round-the-world solo flight in a donated Columbia 400, becoming the youngest person to complete this journey. Now Irving is focusing his time on Experience Aviation, a non-profit group he founded in 2005 to get young people interested in aviation while at the same time bettering the lives of inner-city youths. AVweb editor-in-chief Chad Trautvetter caught up with Irving to find out more about his solo navigation flight, as well as his plans for getting a younger generation hooked on flying.

At EAA AirVenture, AVweb contributing editor Russ Niles was among a few aviation journalists invited aboard the FAA's Bombardier Global 5000 technology test bed aircraft for a look at how ADS-B will be implemented in the National Airspace System. FAA Administrator Marion Blakey was along for the demonstration and, after reporters had exhausted all their questions about the new gear, it was inevitable that talk would turn to Blakey as she gets ready to vacate the administrator's post on Sept. 13. What followed was a remarkably candid self-assessment from Blakey on the highs and lows of her five-year term.
