Interest Mounts Among Potential Thielert
Buyers |
|

The insolvency trustee for Thielert Aircraft Engines says there has been major interest in acquiring the company's assets. Spokesman Sebastian Glaser said "24 prospective buyers have so far expressed
their serious interest by signing a confidentiality agreement." He said the process moves to the next phase in which the interested parties, many of them aviation-related, will get access to detailed
financial records. "The uncommonly large number of potential buyers shows that Thielert is seen as an attractive investment in the industry," said insolvency administrator Bruno K
bler.
Thielert says it's also boosting the credibility of the company by hiring Prof. Gunter Kappler as "Accountable Manager." In that role he'll be responsible for aviation safety issues concerning the
engines from initial development to regulatory compliance. "It lets potential buyers know that they would be acquiring a solidly managed company in terms of technology that operates in compliance with
national and international aviation safety rules," according to the company.

L3 Communications announced an upgrade to their SmartDeck integrated flight deck, with the addition of synthetic vision. The new system
changes the PFD view to show terrain, obstacles and runways. The obstructions and terrain are color-coded and part of a TAWS-B warning system. Additional upgrades included GPS WAAS support,
additional weather options for WSI weather and several minor changes. One feature we found particularly handy was the system showing in text the name of the facility tuned on the radio.
L3's SmartDeck is currently installed on the prototype Cirrus Vision Jet, but even Cirrus has not committed to L3 for production models. SmartDeck could be a strong contender to Garmin's G1000
flight deck if L3 can get a manufacturer to sign on. L3 also introduced its Trilogy ESI-1000 Electronic Standby Instrument that essentially puts airspeed, altitude and attitude all in one 4-by-3 inch
display.

While Cessna Aircraft Company's presence at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 focuses primarily on the company's single-engine line, including the Caravan turboprop, its hugely successful line of business
jets are never far from the forefront. Present in the company's booth at this year's event are a Citation Mustang very light jet (VLJ), the light Citation CJ2+ and a pre-owned Citation ValuePlus
Ultra. The company says the Citation Mustang VLJ enjoys more than 500 orders, with 45 copies delivered in 2007 and plans to celebrate the 100th unit's delivery in August. Three of every five Citation
Mustangs go to international customers. The current fleet totals 86 aircraft that have accumulated more than 12,500 flight hours, with the high-time Mustang having logged more than 500 hours.
While Cessna would love to sell you a jet during AirVenture 2008, its piston singles remain at the forefront of its presence. Among piston-related announcements at this year's show are the
company's expectation of delivering some 150 Cessna 350/400 (neé Columbia) aircraft this year, up to $15,000 in fuel-based incentives to buy a new Cessna 182 Skylane or Turbo Skylane -- including
a free upgrade of G1000-equipped airplanes to Garmin's Synthetic Vision Technology. Also for G1000-equipped singles, Cessna is adding a free Garmin FliteLevel Extended Warranty, giving owners
comprehensive protection against unexpected product failures for up to five years when their standard two-year factory warranty expires. No flight-hour limitation applies and the extended warranty is
transferable with the sale of the aircraft to which it applies.

In recent years, more and more business jets are on display at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and the air show's 2008 edition is no exception. Brazil-based Embraer, itself no stranger to Oshkosh, is at the
show helping to advertise its coming pair of light and very light jets, the Phenom 300 and 100 respectively. While at Oshkosh, Embraer updated attendees on its Phenom 100 certification and flight
testing, announcing the 1,000-hour milestone had been reached by its flight-test fleet. Phenom 100 certification is expected later this year, followed quickly by customer deliveries.
Currently, Embraer has four test aircraft participating in the certification process; the first production Phenom 100s are already in the sub-assembly production phase. Earlier, crosswind tests
were held in Punta Arenas, Chile, and operational tests at high altitude airports were recently concluded in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Systems and performance tests are ongoing, and one test aircraft is
currently in southern Argentina undergoing cold weather tests.
"As the Phenom test campaigns advance, we are excited to see the growing market acceptance of these jets. By the end of June, close to 800 Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 firm orders had been placed,"
said Luís Carlos Affonso, Embraer Executive Vice President, Executive Jets. "To our further satisfaction, the Phenom jets have been awarded by renowned institutions worldwide, for both the
aircraft project and their interior design."by

Hawker Beechcraft's exhibits at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 helps remind pilots and prospective customers of the company's long tradition in general aviation and the opportunities its products hold
for stepping up to turboprops and jets. The company brought six aircraft on display at the show, including a Bonanza G36, Baron G58, King Air C90GTi, King Air B200GT, Beechcraft Premier IA and a
Hawker 400XP. Never a company to get far from its roots, the American Bonanza Society's tent, featuring a vintage Bonanza A36, is nearby and Hawker Beechcraft made certain to provide partial
sponsorship of the annual Bonanzas to Oshkosh (B2OSH) mass arrival.
During AirVenture, Hawker Beechcraft also announced it is offering extended warranties on Garmin G1000-equipped Bonanzas and Barons as an aftermarket option for delivered aircraft. The transferable
warranty provides an additional three years of coverage, extending factory coverage to five years. Meanwhile, Hawker Beechcraft also said it is completing the sale seven of its fixed-base operation
(FBO) locations to BA Aviation Signature Flight Support's parent company. The sale, first announced earlier this year, includes fuel and line operations at seven domestic U.S. locations: Atlanta, GA;
Houston and San Antonio, TX; Indianapolis, IN; Tampa, FL; Wichita, KS; and Van Nuys, CA. Of these, six have been transferred to BBA; with the company expecting final sale of its Van Nuys facility
shortly, once the necessary regulatory approvals have been received.
