Eclipse Aerospace says it's now taking orders for a new aircraft that will be based on the Eclipse 500 but offer some modern improvements. In a podcast interview at NBAA 2011 in Las Vegas, Eclipse President Mason Holland said the company hopes for first deliveries of the new Eclipse 550 in 2013
and the aircraft that's planned will set the standard for the tiny jet market. The 550 will boast an improved avionics package that will include auto throttles, synthetic vision, enhanced vision and a
host of standard and optional improvements that will make it the most advanced light jet available. The new aircraft will sell for $2.695 million. The return to production has been made possible in
large part through the partnership with Sikorsky Aircraft announced at last year's NBAA convention which will have a key role in the resumption of production.
Although all the details don't seem to have been worked out, the basic airframes of the 550 will be built at a Sikorsky plant in Poland and final assembly will take place at Eclipse's spacious
Albuquerque facilities. Holland said the geography of the operation may change in coming years and assembly might take place closer to where the aircraft markets are located. He said that since the
aircraft is already certified, work can begin immediately on the new planes and production will be balanced against demand. He said the initial projections indicate production of 50 to 100 aircraft a
year.

Cessna announced a second new design at NBAA 2011 in Las Vegas on Monday with a midsize bizjet that's between the XLS and Sovereign in size but different from both in terms of features. The
aircraft was designed from the cabin out. It's large for its sector, offering a flat-floor standup (six foot) arrangement with seating for up to eight. It's 77 inches wide, the widest Cessna has ever
built. It also has a full stand-up lav with sink and closet. "It's big enough to get changed in," said Cindy Halsey, who designed the cabin features. The aricraft has a 2,000 nm range and full fuel
payload of 1,000 lbs. First flight will be in 2014 and certification is planned for 2015. Price is $14.9 million.
The aircraft will be powered by Pratt and Whitney Canada PW306D FADEC-controlled turbofans. It will operate from fields as short as 3,900 feet and have a maximum cruise of 442 knots. It will be
certified to 45,000 feet and climb direct to 43,000 feet in 32 minutes. A lot of attention was paid to the interior finish and appointments and among the features is the Cessna Clarity cabin
management system. The system offers flight information and entertainment with easy integration of mobile devices.

and single-pilot-certified operations of the CJ family. The CJ4's cabin is larger, more comfortable, and outfitted with new entertainment and communication systems. All this equals an
aircraft that is flexible enough to meet the requirements of many mid-sized aircraft at light jet costs, plus the service reputation of Cessna to back up your decision. It's what every light jet

Demand for business aircraft is growing by 100% annually in China, a country that will soon offer the world's largest economy, Jason Liao (founder, chairman and CEO of China Business
Aviation Group) told an audience at the NBAA convention this week. "Ten years ago, even private ownership of automobiles was not even in people's mind," Liao said. But last year, Liao says 18
million cars were sold in China -- more, he says, than the U.S. has ever sold in a single year. In terms of value of aircraft delivered, Liao believes China could become the largest market for
business aviation by 2018. That kind of growth would present challenges for both China's infrastructure and regulation, neither of which appear fully addressed -- yet. AVweb's Glenn Pew spoke
with Liao to learn more.

Embraer announced an order for 13 Dynasty business jets at NBAA 2011 to China's Minsheng Financial Leasing. The company had earlier this year signed a deal for up to 20 Embraer jets and the Legacy
650 order is the first stage of what both companies say will be a lasting relationship. "We hold full confidence in the prospects for Embraer's Legacy 650 in the Chinese executive aviation market,
which will surely attain increasing recognition from our customers here in China," said Kong Linshan, Chairman of Minsheng Financial Leasing. The first airplane will be delivered by the end of the
year.
Although the announcement was full of cordiality, including a traditional gift exchange, Kong and Embraer's VP for business aircraft Ernie Edwards did have a difference of opinion. Edwards said his
company predicts the Chinese market for business jets to be more than 600 aircraft over the next 10 years. Kong said his company is predicting 1,000 deliveries.

As of Press Day, the NBAA Convention had adapted well to its 2011 setting -- Las Vegas, the showy capital of excess. But what happens at NBAA may not stay in Vegas, as celebrity and politics share
the spotlight in a show of such theatricality that editor-in-chief Russ Niles had to post to the AVweb Insider blog about it.
