AERION GOES TO BIN LADEN RELATIVE Tarek Bin Laden, a Saudi
businessman and half-brother to Osama Bin Laden, was the first to put a
deposit on an Aerion supersonic business jet when positions went on sale
at the Dubai Air Show on Monday. Reno-based Aerion has yet to start work
on a flying example of its Mach 1.6, eight-to-12-passenger aircraft but
company spokesman Brian Barents told reporters that market demand
dictated they start taking deposits. The aircraft are expected to cost
$80 million and initial deposits are $250,000. More... |

CRJ
BIZJET CONVERSIONS OFFERED Project Phoenix announced a way to
obtain a large business jet for a fraction of the time and money that
the leading manufacturers are offering at the Dubai Air Show, as long as
you dont mind a few thousand cycles or more on the airframe. The
company is buying Bombardier CRJ-200 regional jets on the secondary
market and giving them the executive treatment, along with a mechanical
makeover. Project Phoenix is estimating each converted RJ will cost
about $17.9 million and will present as new.

DUBAI
AIR SHOW ORDERS TOP $100 BILLION Middle Eastern airlines went
on a shopping spree at the 10th Dubai Air Show, currently underway, and
Airbus appears to have regained its position as the top-selling
commercial planemaker. Airbus says its taken a total of 290 orders
at the show while Boeing was at 153 on Tuesday. The redesigned A350 is
proving especially popular among the carriers with their very fat
checkbooks out. On the opening day of the show, Emirates Airlines
announced it would buy 120 A350s and 11 A380s. Boeing had hoped to sell
its 787 Dreamliner to Emirates but got the (relatively) small portion of
the airlines $35 billion fleet expansion with an order for 12 777
ER wide bodies. More... |

EMBRAERS
ORDER BOOK SWELLS IN DUBAI Embraers foray into the
business jet market looks like a good move as it counts up the orders
from the Dubai Air Show. The Brazilian planemaker took in 63 orders in
the first couple of days of the show. Most were for Phenom 100, 300 and
Legacy 600 business jets, but there were also some for its Lineage 1000
model, which is based on the E190 airliner. Two orders for E series
airliners accounted for 13 aircraft. North American bizjet makers also
had their success stories. More... |

WORLD-WIDE
BUSINESS JET SALES SOAR The boom in business jet sales shows
no signs of abating and the expected influx of very light jets has
barely begun. The General Aviation Manufacturers Association released third quarter figures last week and there was a
staggering 20 percent increase in the number of bizjets sold in the
first nine months of the year compared to the same period of 2006. In
all, 759 jets were sold between January and September, up from 628 in
the same time period the previous year, a year that was celebrated as
one of the best ever. More... |

SERIOUS INJURIES IN GLOBAL 5000 CRASH LANDING Heavy, wet snow
and strong winds were present when a Bombardier Global 5000 business
jet's landing gear collapsed after the aircraft apparently landed short
of the runway at a private airport at a golf resort in Nova Scotia on
Sunday. None of the eight passengers and two crew was seriously hurt,
although some were checked in to the hospital. Aircraft owner Ron Joyce,
who is also the owner of the golf course and a pilot, told the Canadian Press the crash was like a car accident,
only more spectacular. "We don't know, I don't know what happened,"
Joyce said. "... I am just happy to be standing here talking to you. It
scared the hell out of me." More... |
