The Hayward Air Rally is an annual event held each May that is probably the longest running air rally in the country (44 years!) In the rally, pilot/co-pilot teams fly from Hayward, to Bakersfield to Palm springs on a predetermined route and identify checkpoints along the way to confirm that they flew the correct route.

The team that most accurately estimates their time en route and their fuel burn wins. Trophies are awarded to the top 15 teams. There are also cash prized and raffle prizes. Participation in the event qualifies for credit towards the FAA wings program.
