  • Swift Rebirth

Randall L. Phillips of Littleton, CO

First flight after two-year reconstruction due to engine failure and off-field landing.

This is the second reconstruction. The first was due to hangar collapse after a Denver snowstorm. This is a simple photo of a Swift, but the real story is about a man and his airplane and an extraordinary effort for both to fly again.

Photoghraphed at Centennial Airport, Denver (KAPA). Sony DSC F828 @ 1/250, f/5.6, Zeiss zoom at 8mm. Converted to B&W with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.

(Highly polished aluminum required digital color photo be rendered in black-and-white to avoid blue sky reflection.)

Many thanks to my wonderful wife and son Jessica and Kyle for letting me finish her all those nights. This was taken landing on runway 10 in New Carlisle, Ohio, in September 2013.
