Long After the War ...

Harold Moritz and Sheila Gleason of East Haddam, CT copyright Sheila Gleason 1941 de Havilland Tiger Moth ZK-ALJ over stunning Lake Wanaka, New Zealand on April 14, 2014. I'm in the front cockpit. Photo taken by my wife, Sheila Gleason, from Tiger Moth ZK-CCH. (These are her favorite airplanes!) ALJ trained over 100 WWII pilots while serving in No. 1 and No. 2 Elementary Flight Training Schools at Dunedin and Ashburton, New Zealand, and entered civilian service in 1946. It has been rebuilt twice since then and is operated by Classic Flights at Wanaka airport. Photo is cropped, color-corrected a little due to hazy weather, and sharpened slightly.

AVweb baseball cap Each week, we go through dozens (and sometimes hundreds) of reader-submitted photos and pick the very best to share with you on Thursday mornings — and one photo that stands above the others is awarded an AVweb baseball cap as our "Picture of the Week."
