Randall Fishman, who's been bringing various electric aircraft to EAA AirVenture for the last five years or so, turned up this week with his latest creation, a one-seat, battery-powered motorglider ultralight. The aircraft flew for the first time just last week, Fishman told AVweb on Friday. "It took off in about 150 feet, and it handles really well," he said. The sleek little aircraft is for sale with a choice of battery packs good for up to one or two hours of flight. The battery also can be recharged by the folded prop while the airplane is soaring. Fishman said the motorgliders, which are built in the Czech Republic, are available for sale at a starting price of $59,000.

Fishman started flying an electric-powered ultralight in 2007, and since then has created a number of different designs under his company name, ElectraFlyer. He's won several grants and awards for his innovations from EAA and the Lindbergh Foundation. AVweb's Mary Grady paid a visit to Fishman this week at the far edge of Wittman Field, in the ultralight area; >click here to listen to the interview.
