Welcome to AVweb‘spreview of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh ’99! This year’s AirVenture promises to be one of thebest yet. But don’t worry — even if you can’t make it to OSH this year, you’ve still gota ring-side seat for all the news, images, sounds and flavor (except for the brats!) ofthe event.

To give you an idea of what you’ll be able to see, hear and experienceeach day of the show, AVweb has prepared this brief preview including:

The Week Ahead
It’s already begun. EAA AirVenture 1999, that is. By the time you read this, this year’sedition of the largest recreational aviation event will be underway. The brats will becooking, the big radials warming up and the air show performers making their last-minutechecks. Even before the official opening Wednesday morning, AVweb was there. Besure to check out our special before-the-show, behind the scenes coverage. Only on AVweb.

Jane Garvey Interview
On Monday, July 26, AVweb‘s Mike Busch conducted a one-on-onetelephone interview with FAA Administrator Jane Garvey. She’ll be at OSH on Sunday, but AVwebwanted to chat with her to help both AirVenture attendees and Mrs. Garvey herself betterunderstand some of the issues facing general aviation, some of the questions she’ll beasked and the answers we’ll hear. Here’s what’s on the FAA Administrator’s mind today.

OSHtalk, Pre-Show Edition
The night before the big show opened, radio personality Tom Gresham and a group ofpilots gathered under the wing of a classic Beech 18 beside the runway at Oshkosh as thesun went, and did what pilots do — talk about airplanes and flying. AVwebcaptured this hour-long roundtable discussion and offers it as a streaming RealAudio feedfor your listening enjoyment. This is EAA AirVenture ’99 at its best, as the magic unfoldsaround the Coleman lantern and the pilots talk about airplanes, flying and why they keepcoming to Oshkosh.

Preview Photo Gallery!
That’s right, we’ve already assembled a small galleryof images from EAA AirVenture ’99 (actually, it’s beginnings) to whet your palette forwhat’s to come, accompanied by our witty, tongue-in-cheek captions … like you’d expectany less?

Following The Flow At Fisk
It is said that when you die, you must first change planes in Atlantabefore going to heaven. Similarly, most aircraft arriving OSH for AirVenture ’99 fly overa fix called Fisk, which is manned by a crack team of controllers equipped with binocularsand radios. AVweb‘s Joe Godfrey checked up on them this week.
