Young Eagles Day 2005 Photo Gallery

EAA chapters around the world held their annual Young Eagles Day events on Saturday, June 11, 2005. Youngsters ages 8 to 17 were invited to come to the airport and experience a free ride in a general-aviation airplane. These pix are from Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown, R.I., where the Quonset Air Museum co-hosts the event with EAA Chapter 1363.

Kids and their families came to the Quonset Air Museum hangar in North Kingstown, Rhode Island for preflight briefings on Young Eagles Day.

They learned about navigation, air traffic control, and the instrument panel before even getting to the ramp.

The last stop at the museum – a walk-around of an airplane and explanation of the preflight and safety procedures.

Next stop is the terminal, where kids get a chance to fly in a real airplane. First, a few instructions and photo ops.

This being an EAA event, there is a wide variety of small single-engine aircraft to fly in.

First Young Eagle of the day Ben Falvey, 11, flew with pilot Kim Boekelheide in his homebuilt Glastar.

More happy new Young Eagles.

Al Schmid proves it’s fun for the pilots, too.

No job is finished ’til the paperwork is done.
