Often the deadliest part of an airline accident isn't the crash, but the fire that results when ruptured fuel lines are ignited. John Galbraith and Dr. Chiu Chan of Foamex are working with the FAA to inhibit and possibly prevent post-crash fires by introducing reticulated foam filler (called "Safety Foam") into jets' fuel tanks.
