A research team at the University of Miami has created an aircraft design that could fly at supersonic speeds without producing a ground observable sonic boom and fly with significantly more efficiency across its entire speed range. It's a 90-degree shift from conventional designs — literally. AVweb's Glenn Pew speaks with the University of Miami's Gecheng Zha about shock waves, isentropic compression and the supersonic bi-directional flying wing.
