What's New -- Products and Services

This month AVweb's survey of the latest products and services for pilots, mechanics and aircraft owners brings you books, an electronic E6-B, DVDs, e-books and more.

If you know of a new product or service other AVweb readers should hear about, please send us a note.

Production Software E6-B for Palm OS and Pocket PC

Pilots looking for a better way to perform flight calculations and conversions will benefit from the latest software product from Production Software.

The PS E6-B runs on Palm OS and Pocket PC devices. The calculator provides over 40 different functions and has large buttons for use in a cockpit with or without a stylus. In addition to standard conversions, the program also has a graphical traffic pattern calculator, weight and balance calculator and up/down timers.

The price is $29.99, although there is a temporary $10 discount available. There is also a free, 14-day trial.

To download the trial version, visit the Production Software Web site.

AirShares Elite CIRRUS2

AirShares Elite has introduced the CIRRUS2 ("Cirrus Squared") program. The CIRRUS2 program lets current Cirrus owners purchase a 25-hour annual share in a Cirrus SR22 to gain access to the nationwide fleet of over 50 aircraft. CIRRUS2 owners also qualify for the AirShares Elite training program featuring an FAA-approved FITS training syllabus, IS-BAO based Safety Management System and dozens of mission-specific recurrent training modules.

Like many current AirShares Elite owners, CIRRUS2 owners can, for example, travel on commercial airlines to South Florida, pick up their CIRRUS2 aircraft and spend a week island-hopping in the Bahamas without a long cross-country flight on either side of the vacation.

The CIRRUS2 program ensures owners will have access to a late-model aircraft to explore different regions of the country or if their own airplane is down for maintenance, upgrades or annual inspection.

For more information about AirShares Elite and the AirShares CIRRUS2 programs and pricing, visit the AirShares Web site.

The DVD sells for $12.95. There is also a movie poster available for $7.95; a One Six Right Piper Cub model for $149.95, a flexfit cap for $19.95 and a One Six Right calendar for $12.95. "Stall/Spin Awareness" Book

Master CFI Rich Stowell has released his new book entitled, The Light Airplane Pilot's Guide to Stall/Spin Awareness. The book draws on 100 years of stall/spin research as well as Stowell's two decades and nearly 30,000 spins of teaching experience.

Stowell's 520-page book exposes 12 common stall/spin myths. The book then devotes four chapters to a historical look at the stall/spin; three more chapters make sense of accident statistics; four chapters explore the spin environment from airplane design and human factors standpoints; eight chapters form the basis for a comprehensive ground school in stall/spin awareness; and the final four chapters tackle the spin training debate. Appendixes offer a compilation of spin recovery information for more than 100 single- and twin-engine airplanes, including an in-depth analysis of the controversial Piper Tomahawk.

The book is available for $34.95. For more information check out Rich's Web site.

AVweb's CEO of the Cockpit, Kevin Garrison, has written a new book that is a lighthearted look at the world of professional flying. His own words say it all:

"If you've ever piloted an aircraft, wanted to pilot an aircraft, or seen an aircraft, this book is a must read. Learn how to be a cool pilot ... Establish your piloting philosophy ... Set your ears on fire and flood the forward lavatory. These techniques and more are all here. Let's face it: If you don't buy this book, the bad guys win and flying will never be the same."
