Many educators came to Oshkosh on July 29 to take part in Teachers Day here at AirVenture 2014, an annual event sponsored by Build A Plane. Teachers Day aims to show educators how to enhance lessons in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with aviation. Build A Plane takes donations of airplanes and puts them into schools so students have hands-on experience with aviation, while incorporating STEM lessons along the way. When you donate your airplane, not only are you helping students, you also receive a receipt that can be used as a tax credit.

Lyn Freeman from Build A Plane says, We put on a half-day program for teachers to get exposed to different opportunities. We provide an opportunity for kids to learn about aviation. Not only does this help students while theyre in school, but Freeman hopes they carry it with them after school.A lot of kids go on from there to aviation-related occupations," said Freeman.Patty Wagstaff, a six-time member of the U.S. Aerobatic Team and the first woman to win the title of the U.S. National Aerobatic champion, addressed the Teachers Day participants. [STEM] didnt really come to me until I got into an airplane. Now I understand equations and why they were important to my education.
