The Weekender: Air Races to Omelets

0

As the season changes, the fly-in circuit shows no sign of slowing down-our review of all things SocialFlight uncovered everything from an air race for everyone through an historic airport appreciation day to a fly-in for omelets. The Cleveland Air Races are being revived-a bit more than 1000 miles away and using airplanes that mere mortals can afford. The Sport Air Racing League makes the next stop on its circuit designed for pilots who just want to fly fast-that’s most of us-in the types of airplanes they happen to own-at Cleveland Municipal Airport, Cleveland Texas on Saturday, October 11 from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. Sign up for the cross country air race-there will be a class that fits the airplane you’re flying-from 7:30 to 8:30; pilot brief is at 9:00 am, with the race at 10:00 am. There will be lunch and awards after the race. The organizers encourage all to come and join the fun, whether they race or watch. The Hardy Connellsville Airport, Connellsville, Pennsylvania and the Air Force JROTC are hosting its “Hometowns Helping Heroes” Wings and Wheels Car and Aircraft Show on Saturday, October 11 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be car, motorcycle and aircraft on display with a number of current military aircraft invited. The event benefits elite and special operations warriors who have been injured or killed serving our country and their families.

The final regional fly-in of the year is being held as a part of the Airport Awarness Day at Freeman Field (Seymour, Indiana) on Saturday October 11 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The airport is an historic multi-engine training facility-a museum on the field is filled with artifacts from the period. The event will include a 50 cent discount on avgas, the Piper Cub Museum traveling display, warbirds, aerobatic rides (fee charged) with Cliff Robinson in his Super Boeing Stearman, kid’s games and activities, flight training information and VFR transponder certification by Eagle Avionics for ony $50. The Second Annual Fly-In to Ryan, Ryan Airfield, Tucson, Arizona will take place this Saturday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Organizers urge all to join them for the fly-in and Omelet Bar in the air-conditioned Admin Building at Ryan Airfield. Chef Todd of Todd’s Restaurant, Ryan Field will be serving up made to order omelets, bacon, bagels, juice and coffee. Thank you to SocialFlight for keeping us abreast of aviation events.
