The Weekender: Cave Tours and Barbecues

The Weekender’s SocialFlight calendar is filling up with a diverse selection of destinations, whether it’s underground or out-of-doors. Fly in to Luray Caverns Airport in Luray, Virginia, on Saturday for a tour of the famous caves with the Beech Aero Club, followed by lunch at the Heart Pine Cafe. Luray Caverns will send a car to get you from the airport, so no logistics to worry about. The tour of the caves is $24 and visitors should be at the airport by 10:30 a.m. to join the group. Business Aviation Day will be held at the Air Terminal Museum in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, celebrating the hardworking aircraft serving news, hospitals, the oil industry and more. Any aircraft is welcome on the ramp, and admission is waived for those who arrive by aircraft or classic car. Just tell the nice folks on the radio you want to park at the museum.

In Zephyrhills, Florida, on Saturday, you can fly in for the BBQ competition and live blues music. Park at the FBO, where you can get a fuel discount, and walk over with a blanket and lawn chairs to the feast. For a variety of outdoors events, Imperial County Airport will host a regional fly-in Saturday with an open house and city street fair, all at the field. Young Eagles flights will be available from EAA Chapter 1. Early arrivals at 7 a.m. can see the 5K run that will start and finish at the airport. To sweeten the deal, visiting aircraft and pilots will have a chance to win door prizes in several categories. For more events in the next week, check out SocialFlight.
