Scenic Frankenmuth Airport in Michigan invites all to its seventh annual Grassroots Fly-In/Camp-In starting Saturday. Relax under the shade of the Preferred Pavilion and join in on the flying, food and contests. Stay for the evening bonfire and camping under your airplane. Also Saturday, the Academy of Model Aeronautics will have its third annual celebration of National Model Aviation Day in Muncie, Indiana. Start the day at the Muncie airport with a motorcycle rally launching from Merk's Family Restaurant. Family Fest at AMA headquarters will feature hands-on activities, EAA Young Eagles flights, tours, flight demos and more.
For a unique day trip, there's the Carriage Festival in Gladwin, Michigan, on Saturday, where all are invited to a pancake breakfast - pilots, festival participants, guests and the public, followed by a carriage parade at 11 a.m., with live entertainment and displays throughout the day. The festival will run through Sunday at the Gladwin County Fairgrounds. In Smoketown, Pennsylvania, a Saturday of fun for the pilot starts with breakfast, followed by a full day of events - a flour bomb drop, precision landing event, workshops, aircraft displays and pilot networking. Lunch in between. The hosts are offering a T-shirt discounts for pilots, and those who fly in and register can qualify for a free one while supplies last.
