0

Winter has already landed in some states, which means brushing up on cold-weather flying — unless you head west or south. The Weekender found destinations in four different regions onSocialFlight.Join fellow pilots for a fly-in breakfast followed by a free winter flying seminar Saturday in Lititz, Pennsylvania. Airframe icing will be the topic, covering avoidance strategies as well as what to do in an inadvertent icing encounter. The seminar will begin at 10 a.m., right after breakfast. Also Saturday, the Gopher Flying Club in Minneapolis welcomes all to join the next club fly-out. The destination is Granite Falls to visit the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum, with a possible lunch stop on the way back in Olivia.

For a warmer weekend outdoors, the Grass Strippers Squadron in Munson, Florida, will host a fly-in at Blackwater Airfield’s grass strip, where you can camp under-wing. Chili will be provided for lunch Saturday. Enjoy flying out to other grass strips or exploring Blackwater Forest. In California, Fallbrook Community Airpark is hosting its annual Toys for Tots drive on Saturday, working with the U.S. Marine Corps. Pilots are welcome to fly in and donate new, unwrapped toys. Food will be served for nominal fees. For more on this week’s upcoming events, visit SocialFlight.
