The Weekender: On The Way To Wisconsin
The Weekender’s SocialFlight calendar is already packed for the next two weekends at AirVenture in Oshkosh, and there’s plenty more to do if you’re flying to Wisconsin or looking for other destinations to check out over the next few days.

The Weekender's SocialFlight calendar is already packed for the next two weekends at AirVenture in Oshkosh, and there's plenty more to do if you're flying to Wisconsin or looking for other destinations to check out over the next few days. If you're heading to Oshkosh from the east, the Twin County Airport in Virginia is offering free on-field camping from this week until the week after AirVenture, providing an easy stop with 24-hour bathrooms, showers and good fuel prices. Grass or ramp tie-downs are available. Closer to Wisconsin in Sparta, Michigan, airplanes (and autos) are welcome this weekend for the first of what will be an annual event: Fly-in/drive-in camping and movie night. Airplanes must make reservations, while the camping and the outdoor Saturday night movie are free. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the 41-foot movie screen.
The Oregon International Air Show in Portland takes place Friday and all weekend at Hillsboro Airport. The show offers family activities, lots of displays and airshow performers including the Navy Blue Angels. It's also a fundraiser for a number of local charitable organizations and has raised $1.3 million since 2013. On Saturday in Oxford, Connecticut, the Oxford Flying Club's annual Safety Day offers a spot landing contest followed by a ramp-side barbecue lunch, plus a safety seminar with Jill Demko of the NTSB Technical Training Office, who will give a presentation on Accident Prevention and Loss of Control in Flight. Rain date is Saturday, July 25. For more on the weekend's fly-in events, visit SocialFlight.
