The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has announced that it has begun expansion of the Memorial Wall at Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s Pioneer Airport. Since 1989, EAA has held an annual dedication ceremony at the monument and bronze plaques have been placed to commemorate the deceased. The ceremony typically takes place on the last Sunday of EAA AirVenture and includes a reading of the names being added to the memorial and a missing man formation flight.
“Throughout the past 28 years, EAA and loved ones have honored more than 2,000 individuals with a passion for aviation,” the organization said. “We are grateful to have these tributes as part of EAA’s history and to be a place where the legacy of passionate aviation enthusiasts and pilots is carried on forever.”
The Memorial Wall monument was constructed using stones brought from around the world by EAA members. For the expansion, EAA is inviting members to bring stones from their geographic location to AirVenture this year. According to EAA, the new stones will be used to create a centerpiece for the expanded area following AirVenture 2020.
