Nasty Passengers Face $80,000 Fines

Two particularly nasty passengers have prompted the FAA’s recommendation of the biggest fines ever levied against individuals for acting out on an airplane. Both of the record-setters are women. The agency has recommended a fine of $81,950 for a female American Airlines passenger for a truly remarkable fracas last July and the other woman is looking at a $77,272 hit for her performance on a Delta flight also last July. They were among 6,000 passengers reported for bad behavior last year. Despite the well-publicized “zero tolerance” policy imposed by the FAA, 2022 is off to strong start with more than 1,000 reports in the first three months of 2022. Thankfully, few such incidents reach the level of misery these two women unleashed on the crew and fellow passengers on their flights.

The American passenger is accused of repeatedly hitting a flight attendant who was trying to stop her from tugging on a door handle in flight. She was never going to get the door open but it’s not something the FAs can allow to continue because it can be pretty upsetting to the other passengers. “After the passenger was restrained in flex cuffs, she spit at, headbutted, bit and tried to kick the crew and other passengers,” the FAA said. “Law enforcement apprehended her in Charlotte.” The other woman started out by hugging and kissing the passenger sitting next to her. When that didn’t go well she “walked to the front of the aircraft to try to exit during flight; refused to return to her seat; and bit another passenger multiple times.”

  1. The fines are one thing, but such behavior in an AppleBee’s would incur assault charges and the threat of jail time and compulsory anger-management treatment. What are the jurisdictional rules here? The aircraft is owned by a corporation (as are most AppleBee’s) but the operation is under federal jurisdiction. How do these incidents not result in federal assault charges?

  2. Probably because decisions made to not criminally prosecute are made by the same prosecutors who are letting so many criminals off or out of jail!

  3. This kind of behavior is the result of the severe decline in the quality of our education system led by radicals who promote violence and disrespect for civility and the rules of law. Thanks to the libtards in the media and elected “officials” promoting outrageous acts of violence and destruction as normal, justified and socially acceptable. We have allowed the development and establishment of adults who act like spoiled, petulant children who think they are above the rules of law and acceptable social behavior because they have been taught that selfish, narcissistic behavior is the norm.

    • Well that took a turn!

Funny how this entire diatribe would have read very differently with a very small change – can you spot it?

  4. Every flight need a uniformed cop with full authority of a US Marshall. In addition there needs to be a Federal Air Marshall on board. This person would no break cover unless weapons are involved.
With 6000 incidents a year it is needed.

  5. Sounds like the individual needs to sit down and think about her actions, problay she would want to take anger management treatment.Really if a person pays money to go from point a to point b,then they find out its so unpleasant they want to open the door and,i guess, hop off, after thinking about it they would problay decide not to fly again until they had a different perspective
