Elbit Systems, based in Haifa, Israel, has completed the acquisition of Universal Avionics Systems Corp., of Tucson, Arizona, for a price of about $120 million, the companies announced on Wednesday. Universal develops and manufactures commercial avionics for a wide range of aircraft, including flight management systems, displays, communication systems and complete cockpit solutions. These products are complementary to Elbit Systems' commercial avionics products, which include enhanced-vision systems and head-up displays, the companies said.
Besides its aviation products, Elbit provides a wide range of systems and equipment for land and naval applications worldwide. Paul DeHerrera, CEO of Universal, said Elbit executives had told him "they look forward to growing our company, which is great news for Tucson." Universal has been installing its "UNS-1" series FMS, for OEM-production and retrofit, since 1982.
