TSA Watch: Long-Awaited GA Security Guidelines Published

For weeks, AVweb told you about the Transportation Security Administration’s forthcoming Security Guidelines For General Aviation Airports. They’ve been released; what’s it mean for you? Right now, not much, at least at the federal level. The TSA’s “Information Publication,” or IP, is analogous to an FAA Advisory Circular and is non-regulatory in nature. However, whether states and localities — or even airport managers — use them as a reason to “crack down” on GA is unknown. Also unknown is what impact, if any, the guidelines will have on the plans by various states to develop their own set of requirements. Watch this space.
