Disney Movies is following up last summer’s animated feature, “Planes,” with a sequel, “Planes: Fire & Rescue,” opening nationwide on Friday. The comedy-adventure features some of the same characters, including Dusty, the ag-plane/air racer, voiced by Dane Cook. Other actors in the cast include Julie Bowen and Ed Harris. Last year, the first feature got an advance showing at EAA AirVenture, where it also got a lot of support as a chance for kids to discover aviation and maybe develop an interest in learning to fly. This year, Redbird has created a simulator with graphics inspired by the film, which will be at the Redbird booth at Oshkosh all week.

“We custom-built the full-motion Dusty simulator for the Disney premiere,” Redbird spokesman Jeff Van West told AVweb. “It will take you on a custom flight with custom scenery, with voices and other airplanes from the movie. In the simulation, you can pick up water and dump it on a fire.” Last summer, AVweb editorial director Paul Bertorelli went to the theater to check out the original film; you can read his critique here.
