A 25-year-old hijacker was shot by commandos and later died after the aircraft landed in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on Sunday. Bangladesh media reports Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG147 was on a flight from Dhaka to Dubai when the man, who identified himself only as Mehedi, reportedly tried to get into the cockpit. He was armed with a pistol and some reports said he claimed to have a bomb. It’s not clear if he actually got into the flight deck.

Once on the ground at Chattogram, the 148 passengers and most of the crew evacuated through an overwing emergency exit and stairs pushed up to the leading edge. Two crew members remained aboard. At some point a team of “para commandos” entered the aircraft. Maj. Gen. Motiur Rahman, the military’s Chattogram commander, said the commandos called for the man to surrender. “But he rejected, and tried to retaliate, which led to the exchange of fire,” Rahman said. “The suspect was apprehended with gunshot injuries, but we have learned that he died later.”
