A giant Indian corporation is reportedly in talks with Florida-based Avantair to establish a fractional business aircraft operation in India. Tata Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates, is said by the Times of India to be in the early stages of negotiations with Avantair, which is based in Clearwater, Fla., and flies a fractional fleet of Piaggio Avanti twin pusher turboprops. The Times says Tata intends to model the Indian operation after the U.S. fractional program.

The Times also said Tata is looking at establishing helicopter operations, aircraft management and maintenance facilities in India in cooperation with international partners. It’s already involved with Singapore-based BJETS. Tata had been considering jumping into the airline business in India but backed off.
