Our survey of the news of the week uncovered two new releases, Conklin and de Deckers latest Aircraft Cost Evaluator and ASAs upgraded aviation dictionary app, as well as the identity of this years winners of the EAA/Daher-Socata scholarships and details of the first California Pilot Safety Tour. Conklin & de Decker has published the Aircraft Cost Evaluator 2014 Volume I, the flagship product from its family of aircraft operating and acquisition data products. It is widely used by aircraft owners, operators, brokers and dealers for side-by-side operating cost, specification and performance comparisons. In addition, ASA announced its newest Aviation Dictionary App for iOS devices, providing over 11,000 aviation related terms, definitions, abbreviations, and acronyms, and nearly 500 illustrations. Based on Dale Crane’s popular book Dictionary of Aeronautical Terms, this latest update has hundreds of additional entries and has also been optimized for the latest iOS for iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPod Touch.

Grace Huseth of Tucker, Ga., and Michael Keck of Oshkosh, Wis., were named as the recipients of this year’s EAA/DAHER-SOCATA International Scholarships. The scholarship/internship program is now in its eighth year. Each recipient receives a five-week internship at Daher-Socata’s Tarbes facility in France, located in the shadow of the Pyrenees Mountains, followed by a week to the EAA Air Academy in Oshkosh where they’ll help Socata during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014. All travel, lodging, and work experience is included, as well as a side trip to the Airbus facility at Toulouse. Finally, PilotSafety.orgs first California Pilot Safety Tour will take place from April 27 through May 6 and provide free FAA Wings Safety Classes and Town Hall Meetings.
