Garmin’s G1000 NXi integrated flight deck is now included as standard equipment in Piper’s Meridian M500 single-engine turboprop and the Mirage M350 piston single, Piper announced on Monday. The company also plans to offer the system as a retrofit option (via STC) for both airplanes, as well as the Matrix, that are currently equipped with the G1000. “This is another example of our commitment to continually upgrade and improve our products and support our customers,” said Piper CEO Simon Caldecott. The G1000 NXi system features wireless cockpit connectivity and enhanced situational awareness. Faster processing power supports improved map rendering and smoother panning throughout the displays, according to Piper.

Additionally, the upgrade provides visual approach guidance (with autopilot coupling). Optional features such as SurfaceWatch, Flight Stream 510 and improved ADS-B options like the GTX 345 are now available in the Piper cockpits. Piper spokeswoman Jacqueline Carlon told AVweb the STC is not expected to be complete until later this year, so the company hasn’t yet set a firm price for the retrofit option. “However, we believe that the pricing will be competitive with similar upgrades that are already available in the aftermarket,” Carlon said. Larry Anglisano, editor of Aviation Consumer, tried out the system last year in Garmin’s King Air; here’s his video report.
