Six people, including a pregnant woman and two children, were rescued virtually unhurt from the wreckage of their Piper Aztec in the water off Grand Bahama Island Monday. With nothing more than a few scrapes and bumps between them, all six were found clinging to the tail section of the twin, which went down on a short flight from Walter’s Cay to Grand Bahama. Jamie Rose, of the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association, told the Associated Press that the aircraft lost an engine and was ditched about three miles from shore.

“[The occupants] were still pretty shell shocked,” Rose said. “Once we got them on the boat, and we started running toward shore, they were saying, ‘We just survived a plane crash.'” All of those aboard were Bahamian and the pregnant woman was six months along.
