Two people aboard a Cirrus SR20 were killed Tuesday in what may have been an attempt at an emergency landing on top of a building near a Toronto airport. Derek Sifton, the owner of Buttonville Airport in suburban Markham, said the pilot of the aircraft, which had just taken off, was in communication with the tower, and controllers hit the airport’s crash alarm as the aircraft hit the roof of a toy company near the airport. The plane reportedly exploded sometime after hitting the roof and there were also reports of a second explosion. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone in the building was hurt but 14 people were evacuated.
