A commuter aircraft identified in first reports as a Bombardier Q400 Dash 8 twin turboprop (also identified by FlightAware.com as a De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400) out of Newark for Buffalo and operating as Colgan Air (Continental Express) Flight 3407 crashed Thursday at about 10:20 pm local time in a residential neighborhood not far from Buffalo Niagara International Airport. First reports indicated the flight was carrying 44 passengers and four crew. The crash site was engulfed in fire and at least one structure (a house) was involved. Two individuals, not on the flight, were taken to a local hospital with injuries. Weather at the airport last night included WSW wind at 17, four miles visibility in mist with trace precipitation, and a temperature/dewpoint spread of 33 and 31 degrees, respectively. Cloud layers included overcast at 2,100 feet and broken at 800. More details as they become available.
