AVweb‘s search of news in aviation found scholarship announcements from Able Flight and the Hayward Air Rally, plus student opportunities at the American Bonanza Society Air Safety Foundation and a safety reminder from the NTSB as this year’s airshow season gets underway. In its 10th anniversary year, Able Flight has awarded a record-setting eight scholarships so that people with disabilities can become licensed pilots. Receiving scholarships are Johnny Ragland and Justin Falls of North Carolina, Ethan Daffron of Indiana, Scott Earley of Florida, Shafeeq Moore of Georgia, Bernard Dime of Arizona, Trevor Denning of Texas, and Shavon McGlynn of New York. The Hayward Air Rally has selected two teenagers, David Serate and Aum Kalia, to receive fully paid scholarships including tuition and round-trip airfare to EAA’s Advanced Air Academy summer 2016 program.

The American Bonanza Society Air Safety Foundation announced the Air Safety and Advocacy Internship program for collegiate and post-graduate professional career path pilots, mechanics, aviation safety or business management students. ABS/ASF is now accepting applications for this exciting, paid internship. The National Transportation Safety Board issued aviation safety alert SA-053 Thursday, highlighting aviation safety issues pilots may face arriving at major fly-in events. The safety alert comes in advance of two major fly-in events: the April 5-10 Sun ‘n Fun international fly-in expo in Lakeland, Florida, and the July 25-31 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The safety alert provides pilots guidance for dealing with the challenges of major fly-in events and stresses the need for them to review FAA Notices to Airmen.
