We received over 800 responses to our question last week on aerobatic training. The vast majority (71 percent) of those responding said pilots should receive basic aerobatic training as part of the syllabus for their first rating. Only 29 percent felt that spin training should be the only aerobatic training offered during primary training, while 37 percent felt that all basic aerobatic maneuvers — including loops, rolls, and spins — should be implemented during this period. While many of the comments we received praised the benefits of aerobatic instruction, several comments debated the practicality of making this training a requirement of primary training. As one person wrote, “Most training facilities do not have advanced-aerobatic aircraft so making this a certification requirement is impractical.”
