The Weekender: Fly Ins Across the Country

0

Winter may be doing its best to deal a one-two punch, but pilots are fighting back with fly ins this weekend. Our weekly survey of SocialFlight found events throughout the country, from the very cold climes to delightfully temperate. Our eyes were first drawn to an interesting one on our northern border: the 67th annual ski fly in on Lake Memphremagog, in Newport, Vt. It takes place on a lake that is split by the Vermont and Quebec border. Organizers say to bring a lunch and a lawn chair to the fly in and then walk and talk across the border with Canadian pilots and look at their airplanes. A BBQ will be set up on the border. Arrive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; the event will finish by 3 p.m. At Huntsville, Ala., EAA Chapter 190 is hosting a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Moontown Airport. Food, homebuilts, vintage aircraft and a Young Eagles Rally are on tap. Even further south, Valkaria Airport, Malabar, Fla., is the site of EAA Chapter 1288’s Saturday, Feb. 15 pancake breakfast fly in. It’ll be happening from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. More info at eaa1288.org.

There are two days of pancake breakfasts with a purpose at the Ocean City, Md., Airport on Saturday and Sunday Feb. 15 and 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the terminal. Donations made will be used to maintain the Huey memorial at the airport. A bit to the northwest you can go to the 14th annual ski fly in at Log Cabin Airport, Mondovi, Wis., on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be hot dogs and chili. And at the Benson, Ariz., Airport, FBO Southwestern Aviation is hosting a pancake breakfast 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. If you have an event pending, go to SocialFlight and post it.
