The Weekender: Fly-Ins, Food and History

SocialFlight is showing fly-ins and aviation gatherings in almost every state this weekend, with some venues not waiting until Saturday to host aviators. On Friday, May 2, at Tri-Cities Airport, Pasco, Wash., Bergstrom Aircraft is holding its annual Cinco De Mayo Potluck Lunch. It runs from noon to 1:00 p.m.; bring a side dish or dessert-call 509-547-6271 to let them know what you’re going to bring. The Northwest Missouri chapter of the Antique Aircraft Association will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 3 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Excelsior Springs, Mo., Airport. Proceeds go to the chapter’s new scholarship in memory of two founding members of the chapter.

The Wings of Dreams Aviation Museum is holding a breakfast buffet to benefit the museum on Saturday, May 3 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Keystone Airpark, Keystone Heights, Fla. Breakfast is $7 for adults, $4 for kids and free for WWII and Korean War vets. There will be a presentation on flying the B-25 and a remembrance of the Doolittle Raid of 1942. The weekend fly-ins aren’t over on Saturday; there’ll be a Funday – Sunday Fly In at Moraine Air Park, Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday, May 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In addition to a pancake breakfast and hotdog lunch, there will be ultralights, homebuilts, antiques, classics and warbirds on the field, awards for best antique, warbird and classic as well as a 10:00 a.m. safety seminar.
