The Weekender: Gumbo, Meyers Aircraft, Airshows

0

Our weekly review of SocialFlight found fly-ins that run the gamut from a night airshow through a fly-in that’s been going on for over half a century, a gathering of classic Meyers aircraft and a fly-in dedicated to gumbo. The nonprofit Discover Aviation Center is holding Discover Aviation Days on Lorain County Airport, Lorain, Ohio, on May 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and May 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It’s a fly-in with an airshow both days-and a night airshow on Saturday. There will be hot air balloons flying and displays of gliders, homebuilts, RC airplanes, powered parachutes, helicopters, ultralights, vintage aircraft and warbirds. There is a museum on the field. A few hundred miles to the northwest, the oldest continuous fly-in breakfast of which we’re aware will be held at Home Acres Airport, Lake City, Mich. Saturday morning, May 25 is the date for the 52nd annual Dawn Patrol. It runs from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Meyers Aircraft fly in will be held from May 27-31 at Fredericksburg, Texas; all owners and enthusiasts of these rare airplanes are welcome. There will be examples of the World War II training biplane, the Meyers OTW on display along with 200s and nearly unique 145s. Finally, EAA Chapter 972 reported that it is concerned that pilots are not getting enough gumbo, so it is holding its Runway Gumbo Fly In on Saturday, May 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gladewater Municipal Airport, Gladewater, Texas. The pilots say they’ll “see you at Gladewater Muni for a heaping helping.” Thank you to SocialFlight for keeping us up to date on what’s happening in grassroots aviation.
