Weekender: Antiques, Balloons, Rotorcraft, And More

The summer season is in full swing across the country, and SocialFlight’s online listing of aviation events reveals plenty of opportunities to explore the aviation world. At Fitchburg Municipal Airport, in Massachusetts, the locals will celebrate the field’s 85th birthday on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and everyone is invited. Pilatus PC-12 owners and pilots are invited to convene in Savannah, Ga., on Friday, for their 18th annual convention. The weekend will feature vendor displays, seminars, and opportunities for Q&A with a variety of experts.

Gardner Municipal Airport, in Kansas, will host a World War I replica fly-in, plus pancake breakfast, on Friday. In Alabama, the 10th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival welcomes 50 balloonists from around the country to the Jack Edwards Airport in Foley, with plans to launch Friday and Saturday morning and balloon glows on Friday and Saturday night, weather permitting. This free event includes live music during the day, plenty of food and drink, an arts and crafts show, and lots of activities for kids. And for enthusiasts of vertical flight, Rotors Over The Rockies offers a look this weekend at all kinds of experimental rotorcraft and gyrocopters, including seminars, instruction, free admission, and on-field camping, at the Brigham City Airport in Utah.
