Crow Island Airpark

Once August arrives, summer has a way of speeding past, so if you’re looking to make the most of these last few weekends before Labor Day, SocialFlight’s app and website provide plenty of opportunities. In Stow, Massachusetts, this weekend, you can camp under your airplane’s wing at the private Crow Island airport. The annual summer cookout will provide you with food, friends and a spring-fed freshwater pond for swimming. For Midwesterners, the Post Air Airport in Indianapolis also is hosting an annual fly-in, featuring classic airplanes, classic cars, Young Eagles rides and lunch, at a beautiful private airport. SocialFlight has more details plus contact info if you want to camp.

Farther west, flyers can spend a weekend at the EAA Chapter 292 annual fly-in at Independence State Airport in Oregon. Free housing is offered, and visitors can see a World War I-era DeHavilland and other aircraft, plus cars, on display. A barbecue is set for Friday and meals all day Saturday, and you can take a tour of the local wineries. Advance registration is recommended; details are posted on SocialFlight. In Groveland, California, the Pine Mountain Lake Aviation Association is hosting a historical aircraft display, as they do on the third Saturday of every month. SocialFlight lists events at airports around the country every day, and will also show you places nearby to visit while you’re in the area.
