Night And Fog Vision For All

Forward Vision has made progress with its low-cost (read: $20,000) Forward-Looking Infra Red (FLIR) Camera for GA airplanes. The system has been around for a over a year but is soon to be field-approved on certified airplanes and STC’d for the King Air C90. More STCs will follow. A FLIR lets the pilot see through fog or darkness and display it on an LCD in the cockpit. “I’ve been in solid IMC but able to see trees on the lake shore miles away on the FLIR,” said Pat Farrell of Forward Vision.
