FreeFlight Systems will offer an ADS-B Out system with a price tag of under $2,000. The company will officially launch its Equip-It 2020 packages on April 8, the opening day of this year's Aircraft Electronics Association Convention in Dallas. Equip-It 2020 will include FreeFlight's RANGR Lite in two options, ADS-B Out, which will meet the 2020 equipment requirement, and ADS-B In/Out, which will have the added weather and traffic capabilities. A few companies this month confirmed their plans to develop cargo spacecraft for this year's round of bids for NASA contracts to service the International Space Station, according to a Washington Post report. On Tuesday, Sierra Nevada Corp. announced a version of its manned reusable vehicle, modified for cargo missions. The Dream Chaser Cargo System will feature a folding-wing design and the ability to make a runway landing. Read More
With the market for its TBM single-engine turboprops showing new vitality, French aircraft manufacturer Daher formally opened a new sales, maintenance and support facility in Pompano Beach, Florida, on Friday. Coincident with that, the company has also undergone a bit of a name change, from the former Daher-Socata to just Daher, the name of the family that founded the current company. Socata was once part of the Airbus Industries consortium, but Daher has owned its assets for about six years. The name change make Daher the nameplate builder of the aircraft, but TBM remains the brand. Daher also owns the single-engine line once produced by Socata. Read More
