Sandel Avilon Flight Deck Demo   Larry Anglisano     A couple of years ago Sandel Avionics promised that its Avilon modular integrated flight deck would be the cost-effective and simple retrofit the industry has been waiting for. At the NBAA convention in Orlando, Florida, this week the company announced that it will begin shipping the Avilon (initially for King Air applications) in the first part of 2019.   Read more

Jet Shades Tinted Window Panels   Larry Anglisano     A challenge in some cabin-class airplanes is balancing the temperature between the cockpit and the rear cabin, or even keeping the cockpit cool even when the air conditioning is running. A company called Jet Shades found a solution with its innovative removable tinted window panels.   Read more Revamped Wright Visitor Center Opens Saturday   Mary Grady     After nearly two years of renovation work and upgrades, the visitor center at the Wright Brothers Memorial National Park, at Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina, will reopen on Saturday. The center’s most popular feature—a meticulous reproduction of the 1903 Wright Flyer built by The Wright Experience—remains the centerpiece of the display.   Read more
