With a long weekend ahead, it's a great time to plan a flying excursion, and SocialFlight has plenty of options. To make the most of the extra time, pilots are invited to fly in to East Gore, Nova Scotia, for the annual Stanley Fly In. About 50 airplanes from all over the region are expected, weather permitting. The three-day event will feature a corn boil on Friday night, live music, camping on site, safety forums for pilots, craft and bake sales, aircraft displays and a food wagon. On Saturday, Lancaster Regional Airport in Texas, just outside of Dallas, presents a day of warbirds, classic cars and paratroopers. The Cold War Museum and Cavanaugh Flight Museum will have displays on site, and rides will be for sale aboard the B-24 Diamond Lil, operated by the Commemorative Air Force.
For those who like to explore wide-open spaces, the Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, Montana, will host an airshow on Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring the USAF Thunderbirds. GA pilots are welcome to fly in for the event, but check in with the Glacier Jet Center for details. On the West Coast, Trinity Center Airport in northern California offers a fly-in barbecue this weekend, with live music and a classic car show on the field. The airport lies adjacent to the Trinity Alps Wilderness and Trinity Lake, and there's a campground nearby. Pilots can always find current events and new airports to explore via SocialFlight's free website and app.
