The Weekender: Family-Friendly Fall Day Trips

Saturday’s the day to fly out on your pick of fun-filled trips, according to The Weekender’s SocialFlightcalendar. The Granite State Airport Management Association and the Capitol Region Food Program will host a 5K On the Runway atConcord Municipal Airport in New Hampshire. There will be lots of activities for the whole family. All attendees are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item. Learn about adventure flying along with how to land on the Alton Bay Ice Runway during a free presentation at Lancaster Airport in Pennsylvania. Speaker David Newcomer, a local pilot, has flown over every state in the continental U.S., and all of the Hawaiian Islands. He has made 17 landings at Alton Bay in a variety of aircraft.

Sun-n-Fun in Lakeland, Florida, invites all to the When Pigs Fly South BBQ Competition on Saturday, featuring BBQ and beer, cars and an airshow at 1 p.m. Arrive early for a pancake breakfast hosted by EAAChapter 454. On the same day, Independence Municipal in Iowa will host its Fall Chili Fly-In, featuring a pumpkin drop at 1 p.m., plus airplane rides. Meals are $12 a plate; PICs and kids under 5 eat free.
