Bonhomme Wins Red Bull Title
Britain’s Paul Bonhomme won his third Red Bull Air Race championship with a second-place finish at the final race of the season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday. The championship is decided by the accumulation of points over the season and Australia’s Matt Hall, who won the Vegas race, ended up second overall. Austria’s Hannes Arch, who came fifth Sunday, ended up third overall. Weather was a factor in this year’s Vegas event, just as it was in 2014.

There were thunderstorms in the area throughout the weekend and Bonhomme's aircraft was damaged by a downpour during the Round of 14, the first of the qualifying heats. The aircraft was repaired twice before it could return to the race and Bonhomme managed to score high enough to keep his first-place standing. "The conditions were shocking," said race winner Hall, of the ominous rain clouds in the desert area around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. "There was a lot of pressure on Paul and he did what he had to do - so congratulations." Last year, the final day of racing was canceled by high winds and Canada's Pete McLeod was named the winner by virtue of his first-place finish in qualifying. McLeod was 11th on Sunday.
