EAA AirVenture Launches Monday
The annual pilgrimage of all things aviation to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, has begun, with official opening day of EAA AirVenture set for Monday. Show events will honor the end of World War II, 70 years ago, and the legacy of aircraft designer Burt Rutan (who may fly to the show in his newest creation, a seaplane). Other highlights include a 30-foot drone cage where visitors can try their hand at flying remotely, and lots of training opportunities for current and future pilots. Icon will deliver its first A5 LSA amphibian at the show, and all the major manufacturers of GA aircraft and accessories will be there to introduce their newest products and upgrades.

The show also includes plenty of activities for nonpilots. All teachers are invited to sign up for Teachers' Day, on Tuesday July 21. Voyager pilot Dick Rutan will be the keynote speaker, and teachers get free admission to AirVenture compliments of EAA, as well as a free lunch and free parking. The program includes plenty of ideas and materials for using aviation to teach kids about science, technology, engineering and math. Last year, AVweb intern Ashley Anglisano filed a video report about the event. NASA will be celebrating its centennial, plus the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission. KidVenture and nightly programs with music, movies, and speakers, plus 75 different airshow acts, also fill the agenda. AVweb staff will be at the show all next week, bringing you daily reports, videos and podcasts.
