Las Vegas Police Helicopter Crashes

Two Las Vegas police officers were injured Wednesday when their helicopter crashed on a road near the city's downtown, the Las Vegas Sun reported. The Hughes 369, owned by the city's police department, landed on the road about 1:30 p.m. and emergency responders arrived, the newspaper said. The two officers were able to walk away from the crash and were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the Sun reported. There were no other reports of injuries.

The helicopter was responding to a call about an ongoing battery incident when it had an unidentified problem and was forced to land, police told the Sun.The FAA was on site Wednesday to investigate. A witness told the Sun he was driving when he saw the helicopter overhead, apparently preparing to land but moving quickly. He said the helicopter avoided a house and skidded to a stop on the road, then hit a large trash container. The helicopter is one of five owned by the police department, according to the Sun.
