An airplane crashed into a mobile home in a trailer park in Lake Worth, Florida, on Tuesday evening, sparking an intense fire that destroyed the building and the airplane, according to the FAA. At a Wednesday morning news conference, FAA officials said the Piper Cherokee 180, with only its owner on board, had taken off from Orlando and was heading for Lantana. No distress calls were made. The pilot anda 21-year-old woman who was sleeping in the trailer were killed. A second home nearby also was damaged.
Blurry video from a nearby surveillance camera shows the airplane in a steep bank, with its wings nearly vertical to the ground, just before it hits the trailer, followed by an immediate large plume of dark smoke.
