Demand for business aircraft is growing by 100% annually in China, a country that will soon offer the world’s largest economy, Jason Liao (founder, chairman and CEO of China Business Aviation Group) told an audience at the NBAA convention this week. “Ten years ago, even private ownership of automobiles was not even in people’s mind,” Liao said. But last year, Liao says 18 million cars were sold in China — more, he says, than the U.S. has ever sold in a single year. In terms of value of aircraft delivered, Liao believes China could become the largest market for business aviation by 2018. That kind of growth would present challenges for both China’s infrastructure and regulation, neither of which appear fully addressed — yet. AVweb‘s Glenn Pew spoke with Liao to learn more.
