Picture of the Week: AVweb’s Flying Photography Showcase

Look out! We’ve got another massive batch of photos comin’ atcha this week, most of them directly from the cameras of AVweb readers who managed to attend EAA AirVenture ’08 in Oshkosh. Gregory Palmer of Palatine, Illinois had us scratching our heads and trying to figure out how to crop his winning photo (taken at Oshkosh!) for the slideshow on our home page. Despite our best efforts, though, you should still make it a point to click through and view the full-size version of this one … .

Each week, we go through dozens (and sometimes hundreds) of reader-submitted photos and pick the very best to share with you on Thursday mornings.  The top photos are featured on AVweb's home page, and one photo that stands above the others is awarded an AVweb baseball cap as our "Picture of the Week."  Want to see your photo on AVweb.com?  Click here to submit it to our weekly contest.

Prop Wash

Michael Pastore of Wheaton, Illinois snapped this one at Oshkosh, too. That's Sohio Super Corsair #57, and, like its predecessor, this one demands to be seen at full-size.

On the Water

A bit understated for an airplane photo, perhaps, but we immediately fell in love with the interesting angle in this image from Gary Hebbard of St. John's, Newfoundland (Canada).

Shadow of Things to Come?

Not an Oshkosh photo, you say? You're sort of right - Suzy Kryzanowicz of Bay City, Michigan shot this on her way to AirVenture! (And strangely enough, airplane silhouettes were a recurring them among this week's submissions, although this is the only one that worked its way into our top 25.)

Short on Funds

Ron Horton of Ft. Mill, South Carolina supplied us with plenty of awesome photos this week, but we had to pick a single one to share with everyone, and this is it. Ron jokes that it "looks like this ultralight builder finished the wings and ran out of money!"

Once again, we recommend viewing the full-size version - oh, what the heck! By now you should know to click through and view all of these at their original size, right?

A quick note for submitters:  If you've got several photos that you feel are "POTW" material, your best bet is to submit them one-a-week!  That gives your photos a greater chance of seeing print on AVweb, and it makes the selection process a little easier on us, too.  ;)

A Reminder About Copyrights:
Please take a moment to consider the source of your image before submitting to our "Picture of the Week" contest. If you did not take the photo yourself, ask yourself if you are indeed authorized to release publication rights to AVweb. If you're uncertain, consult the POTW Rules or or send us an e-mail.
